Online Reputation Management Case Study
BRANDS UNDER ATTACK

The Price of Now: Web 2.0

Everything on the web can be done in almost real time. Because of the fast-pace of society, we expect that everything should be as quick and easy as possible. This includes setting up profiles and accounts for every service available online. However, there is a price to this near-instantaneous access to online publishing tools like social media accounts and blog sites: anyone can create fake identities and publish false information. This is a deadly combination of speed and the ability to reach to an ever growing online audience.

Someone can set up a false account using your name and impersonate you, publishing anything they want about you, and destroy your reputation online. This irreparable damage could be completed in a matter of seconds.

Finding the true identity of the people who attack you online and holding them accountable for unethical or even illegal behavior can be nearly impossible even when there are clear suspects.

  1. I have heard of identity theft: ID cards, social security card, photo picture, name, but not your online reputation. The perpetrators of such crimes should be held accountable.
